Windows and doors in Shrewsbury
We match homeowners in Shrewsbury with one vetted window and door installer covering the SY1, SY2, SY3 postcodes. We are an introducer, not an installer: we do not fit anything and we do not set prices. Your enquiry goes to a single installer, who surveys and quotes directly.
Shrewsbury is unusually constrained for a town of its size. The loop of the Severn holds a medieval core of timber-framed and Georgian buildings, much of it listed and nearly all of it inside a conservation area, so what you are allowed to fit changes street by street.

Housing stock
What Shrewsbury is built of
The town centre is dominated by timber-framed buildings and Georgian brick, a high proportion of it listed. Beyond the loop, Victorian and Edwardian terraces run out along the Abbey Foregate, Belle Vue and Castlefields, with inter-war and post-war semis further out towards Harlescott, Monkmoor and Bayston Hill, and newer estates at Sutton Farm and Oxon.
Constraints
What you are allowed to fit
The Shrewsbury conservation area covers the whole town centre and several outlying areas. Listed building consent is needed for any window alteration on a listed property, inside as well as out, and timber or secondary glazing is usually the only route. Outside the centre, most Victorian and later housing has normal permitted development rights.
Our guides on conservation areas, listed buildings and building regulations cover this in detail.

The districts we cover here
A vetted installer covers the inked districts. Anything outside them and the form will say so rather than take an enquiry we cannot place. The hatched districts are nearby towns we know and have not yet signed an installer for.

Questions
Questions about Shrewsbury
- Do you cover all of Shrewsbury?
- We cover the SY1, SY2, SY3 postcode districts. If your postcode falls outside those, the form will tell you straight away rather than taking your details.
- How many installers will contact me in Shrewsbury?
- One. We pass your enquiry to a single vetted installer covering your postcode, rather than selling it to several firms who each then ring you.
- Do I need planning permission in Shrewsbury?
- For most properties, replacing windows is permitted development and needs no application. Shropshire Council holds the conservation area boundaries and any Article 4 directions, and those remove that right where they apply. Listed buildings always need listed building consent.
- Who signs off the building regulations?
- A FENSA, CERTASS or Assure registered installer self-certifies the work and sends you the certificate. If your installer is not registered, you have to apply to Shropshire Council building control yourself.
